About
I create PODCASTS
I’m a creative Audio Storyteller, Host and Executive Producer with 15+ years experience.
I’ve co-hosted and produced 400+ shows on BBC Radio 4 with Eddie Mair. Our weekly show, iPM, was an early pioneer of podcasts.
My most recent narrative podcast was nominated for a 2022 Webby and 2022 British Podcast Award and has been optioned for a possible TV drama.
I have an editorial and culturally sensitive approach to my work. I workshop, write, script edit, interview, story edit, produce and craft edit. I also do audio strategy work and consulting/problem solving.
I dance Argentine Tango. My passion for 15+ years and how I found my community in London. Cabeceo’s welcome.
Podcasting
I discovered the Transom website in the early 2000s. It was and continues to be a remarkable resource for developing and understanding how to make great audio. I came across This American Life (TAL) through Transom and knew I wanted to make ‘radio like that’. I didn’t know it then, but around five years later I would have the opportunity to experiment with crafting audio for Radio 4 as co-host of a new show, iPM. This also gave me the chance to interview Ira Glass in 2013 and again in 2014 after Serial launched.
I listened to TAL, Radiolab, Planet Money, Fresh Air etc and all the classic radio shows from America via individual apps on my phone. When the Apple podcast app arrived I aggregated my feed through subscriptions and my listening habits fundamentally changed. After the 2015 podcast explosion, there was no going back. The range of high-quality and brilliant storytelling and debate available in my feed is breathtaking. The learning, laughter, humanity and sheer jaw-dropping surprises I’ve discovered via podcasts is a gift and I love being part of this growing industry.
BBC Radio 4
For nine years I co-hosted an award winning BBC Radio 4 show with Eddie Mair called iPM.
It was a 24 minute documentary show and one of the first BBC podcasts. We told real-life stories every week, all year round. We mixed interviews, narrative storytelling and round table conversation. I helped launch the show and develop its tone and style.
I produced stories, interviewed guests, scripted the show and co-hosted with one of the most skilled and imaginative UK broadcasters, Eddie Mair. And I worked with brilliant Radio 4 producers to craft remarkable and compelling stories to a weekly deadline.
I made over 400 shows and it is where I learned to craft long form audio under pressure and experiment with narrative storytelling. Each week I collaborated with our contributors, experts and guests to communicate their experience sensitively and fairly. I left the show to focus on making narrative podcasts. The show sadly ended two years later.
I also did some traditional reporting on Radio 4’s PM, The World at One and Broadcasting House. iPM was within this team of Radio 4 News programmes and responded to the news agenda without being led by it.
podcasting in scotland
I’m creating new podcasts with the BBC Scotland newsroom. I’ve delivered four new podcasts in the last four years. Two long form narrative, including one nominated for a Webby and two conversational. I’ve also supported and given feedback on many others, advised on strategy and put new production processes in place. I’m experimenting with different ways of working. I believe new cultures are needed in newsrooms and organisations that connect departments and specialities and cross-pollinate ideas and skillsets to offer trusted content that serves listeners better.
I’m focusing on narrative podcasts combining high quality journalism with dramatic storytelling that compels audiences to keep listening.
